This page explains what happens with your data when you use ByteShelf (“the website”) and the apps you can download from it. The website is operated by Mohd Tausif; when this page says “I”, that is who it means.
It is meant to be short and honest. If anything is unclear, get in touch and I'll explain.
To remember your preferences, the website keeps two small values in your browser's local storage:
Like every website, this one is delivered by a hosting provider. When your browser requests a page, the provider's servers automatically process technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for. This is needed to deliver the page and to keep the service secure. I don't use these logs to identify or profile visitors.
Direct downloads are served from Cloudinary, a file hosting service. When you download a file, Cloudinary receives the request (including your IP address) in order to send you the file.
Some apps are distributed through official stores such as the Apple App Store, Google Play or the Microsoft Store. Following a store link takes you to that store, where the store's own terms and privacy policy apply.
Open-source apps link to their repository on GitHub, and closed-source apps link to scan reports on VirusTotal. Those sites are operated by their respective companies.
After a download you may see a feedback form. It is a Google Form: whatever you type into it is sent to Google and stored in my Google account, where only I can read it. The form is optional. Please don't put sensitive personal information in it.
The contact form on this website does not send or store anything by itself — it opens your own email app with a draft. If you send that email, I receive your email address and your message, and I use them only to reply to you.
Donations are made through UPI. The payment is handled entirely by your UPI app and the banks involved; the website never sees your bank or card details. As with any UPI payment, I receive the transaction details my bank shows me, such as the payer name, UPI ID and amount.
Fonts are served from the website itself. Screenshots and demo videos may be loaded from Cloudinary. Where a demo video is hosted on YouTube, it is only loaded once you choose to play it, using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
The website is intended for a general audience. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
If the way the website or my apps handle data changes, I will update this page and the date at the top.
You can reach me at tausif6040@gmail.com or through the contact page.
Each app is a separate piece of software. Here is what every one of them does with your data. For open-source apps you can check this yourself in the source code.
SnapText recognises text entirely on your Mac and only captures the area you select, when you press the shortcut.
It never saves captured images, has no account system and makes no network requests.
